Arguing and trying to talk him/her into feeling different. This strategy does not work as well.

So what you can do to stop divorce?

The biggest secret is that you need to work at your relationship. You must persistently work at having pleasant relationship. By no means should you take your relationship for granted.

Many outside factors (job, finances, illness or inattention) have huge influence on relationships. You goal should be to deal with these factors.

Here are three steps to stop divorce.

1. Husband and wife should come to an understanding that an outside factor is the most important cause.

2. Husband and wife should create a reasonable plan for solving the problem. A thorough plan must engage both of spouses.

3. Make the plan happen. Engage the whole family if needed.

Here are some tips that will help you have a good relationship.

- Communicate with your spouse. Talk about things that bother you, using the word “we” a lot.

- Spend more time together doing things you each like to do.

- Think twice before you say something.

- Do not shout a hard criticism.

Small house for an art lover; Liz adds style to her family apartment with budget ideas and a little craft peek in your pad

0 Comments | Sunday Mail (Glasgow, Scotland), Sept 28, 2008

Byline: Laura Davidson

Small can most definitely be beautiful as far as Liz and Stuart Birnie’s two-bedroom family home is concerned.

For what it lacks in square footage is more than made up for in style.

Each room just oozes class, from the bathroom that’s kitted out to look like a plush Thai spa, to the gorgeous master bedroom that screams boutique hotel elegance.

And the best bit of all is that the stylish look has been created mostly on a budget.

Budding interior designer Liz, 51, had been a hairdresser for more than 30 years when she decided she wanted to get serious about her hobby of home decorating.

She signed up for an evening class three years ago and ended up with an HNC in interior design before going on to do Highers in art and design and photography.

She said: “I found design is about far more than picking nice cushions. I learned lots about spatial awareness and construction – it’s all about making a space work for its purpose.

“I’ve always been intrigued by interiors. It’s great to have more knowledge about it now.

“I love to mix and match things. If I see a designer piece I might splash out but more often than not I’ll go to IKEA like many people and buy what I can afford. Most of their pieces are aesthetically pleasing but also functional – they make it affordable to be able to follow trends.”

Liz moved into her second-floor modern flat in Whiteinch, Glasgow, a year ago with husband Stuart, 40, who works in the building trade, and their 11-year-old son Zack.

In the hallway, they were faced with seven wooden doors leading to the main rooms and storage space.

Liz found the set-up dark and depressing so asked a joiner pal to cut large leaf-shaped holes in four of the doors and inlay glass to let in the light.

The result is quirky and modern.

The kitchen has also been customised. The beechwood units weren’t to Liz’s taste so the joiner was asked back to box in each unit with black wood.

Liz then added white high-gloss doors and contrasting black laminate worktops and splashbacks to give a classy monochrome look.

Next door in the master bedroom Liz used an IKEA window panel for inspiration.

As well as using one to cleverly cover her headboard, she also used it as a wall stencil, picking out its pattern on her bedhead feature wall in funky copper spray paint.

Every single bit of the window panel was reused – Liz even cut up its inner tubes and spray painted them to make a funky vase.

The main bathroom has been covered in large leather-eather-look tiles with diamond-style ceiling lights and Thai wooden sculptures picked up on holiday.

Zack’s bedroom is a fabulous functional den with a high bunk bed, a comfy leather sofa below that and a large computer desk.

The living room has an unusual tiled feature wall and high-gloss white porcelain tiled floor.

Black window shutters provide an alternative to curtains – and a contrast to the white floor – and there’s a comfy L-shaped sofa for the family to lounge on.

Many of the artworks around the flat were made by Liz. She said: “I’ve discovered a real passion for photography and I love that you can manipulate images and make great artwork from them.

“I’ve taken close-up shots of flowers in vases and even wine glasses that look great when hung on the wall at home.

“I’m really interested in design and I think decorating this house has fuelled that further.

“The thing I love about it is…you’re only limited by your own imagination.”

I’m really interested in design and I think decorating the flat has fuelled that

I love: My bathroom is like my own spa. It’s a bit of luxury.

I’d change: I’d love one more room in the flat that I could use for visiting friends and relatives.

Make the resume easy to read

Don’t print your resume in any font size smaller than 11 pt. Be liberal with white
space and remember that bullet points in a list help a reader to absorb information.

You can emphasize headers and key points by discreet use of bold type, capitals or
underlining — but don’t overdo the effect.

Consider going on to a second sheet if a single page is crammed.

4. Seize the reader’s interest in the first few lines

If your application is one of dozens or even hundreds received, you need to capture
the attention of the reader in just a few seconds. The best way to focus interest at
the start is with a powerful objective — or, if you prefer it, a skills summary. It’s the
place to emphasize your key achievements and core expertise and identify specific
job goals.

The employer wants a straight answer to the question ‘What can this person do for
me?’ — so make your profile easy to read and give a clear statement of what you
can bring to the job.

Knock the nagging on the head, hubbies

0 Comments | Daily Mirror, The; London (UK), Jul 22, 2010 | by Coleen Nolan

I had a real laugh reading about Britain’s most nagging wife in my Mirror yesterday.

Poor old Alan Hawkings complains that his wife Shola (below) ear- bashes him constantly about the state of the house, the position of the toilet seat, shaving foam in the sink and dirty pots left in the kitchen.

I’m it.

He claims her nagging is making his life a misery

Grosvenor takes Pounds 500m hit as property values plunge [Edition

0 Comments | Evening Standard; London (UK), Apr 15, 2010 | by Hugo Duncan

BRITAIN’S richest aristocrat saw the value of his company’s property portfolio crash by Pounds 500 million last year, despite a second-half recovery in London.

Grosvenor – the Duke of Westminster’s property group – said today that the estate was worth Pounds 5.22 billion at the end of 2009, compared with Pounds 6.17 billion 12 months earlier.

Half of the near-Pounds 1 billion drop came from asset sales but the other Pounds 500 million came from falling property values as the recession rumbled on.

It resulted in another year of losses for the firm, which owns 300 acres of Mayfair and Belgravia and vast estates in Cheshire, Lancashire, Scotland and overseas.

Land and property has underpinned the Duke of Westminster’s wealth for generations and the Grosvenor family has survived 20 recessions in over 300 years. Gerald Grosvenor, the 6th Duke of Westminster, is the UK’s third-richest man behind Roman Abramovich and Lakshmi Mittal.

Grosvenor chief executive Mark Preston said: “As expected, 2009 was a really challenging year for the property industry. We have been through unprecedented storms in the financial and property markets and we cannot be sure that we have seen the last of them in all the regions and sectors in which Grosvenor operates.

“Values in the UK and London started recovering in the second half of last year and have continued to rise this year. There was a big change between the first and second half of 2009

It will eventually begin to actually believe that your fearful imaginations are real and act upon them.

~ If your fear is real, accept it and take whatever steps you can to change the circumstances that cause your fear. Keep in mind that courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s the ability to press on dispite the presence of fear. Many times, the solution to any fear is simply – do the thing you fear. It’s amazing how action conquers fear! Try it.

~ If you are fearing a person, or the ‘unknown,’ the best thing to do is simply trust God. There is no greater way to overcome these kinds of fears.

Toomey Starts The Name-Calling

0 Comments | Intelligencer Journal Lancaster New Era; Combined Saturday edition, Jul 27, 2010

To the Editors:

Pat Toomey has started his campaign by putting negative ads on television daily. I am sure this is not what the voters want to hear. He sounds like a kid at the playground who takes pleasure in name-calling.

In another ad, he mentions more jobs. I would like to hear what his plan is to create more jobs, and I’m sure all the people who have lost theirs want to hear this, too.

I would like to hear how he plans to get the banks, which have been bailed out by taxpayers, to now turn around and give loans to small business owners who need them to continue or expand their businesses.

I want to hear how he plans to do things to get the economy going in a positive direction. I don’t want to hear negativity and name- calling
